LEE COUNTY, Fla.- A fresh idea helping local food banks.

Healthy Harvest Farms in Lehigh Acres donates up to 350 pounds of produce each week. That’s 75 percent of its output, the rest you can buy with a donation.

Fresh produce in those jars is grown by Joe Pearson who used to be a personal trainer.

He says his life used to be “me-centric,” but then, something changed.

Pearson grows fresh bell peppers, tomatoes, guava, plantains, mangos, cabbage and more.

“We’ve grown our farm from a little 50×50 plot of boxes to now we’re in acres that we’ve grown in to.”

He donates 3/4 of what he grows to food banks, the rest is purchased for a donation.
