TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) – Revenge porn could soon be illegal in Florida.

The state Senate unanimously passed a bill Thursday that would make it illegal to post online sexually explicit photos and videos of someone without their consent.

The measure (SB 538) takes aim at people who seek to get back at exes by posting images they took during better times and were meant to remain private.

A first offense would be a first degree misdemeanor, punishable by up to a year in jail. A second violation would be a third-degree felony, punishable by up to five years in prison.

Efforts to ban the practice have failed the past two years. The House is ready to vote on a similar bill.
