PINE ISLAND SOUND, Fla. – Southwest Florida has a ton to offer, from world class beaches, to boating and fun in the sun but there’s also a historic side that you might not even know about.

Captiva Cruises, takes daily cruises out of McCarthy’s Marina on Captiva Island visiting the six islands north of Captiva, including: Cabbage Key, Useppa and Cayo Costa.

From November to April you can even take a journey from Captiva to Pine Island, seeing the historic fish houses of Pine Island Sound and docking at Tarpon Lodge for a trip back in time to the Calusa Indian Mounds.

For more than 1,500 years the site was a Calusa Indian Village, today large shell mounds overlook the waters of Pine Island Sound and visitors can walk the heritage trails and explore the ancient ruins.

Space is limited and reservations are required for the Pine Island historical tours by calling Captiva Cruises at 239-472-5300. Tickets cost $45 for adults, $35 for Children (ages 2 – 12). Admission to Randell Research Center is included in cruise price; lunch at Tarpon Lodge is not included in cruise price.
