Barbecue, bands, and brew comes to SWFL

FORT MYERS, Fla. – There’s nothing like sitting back, having some good barbeque, listening to some good music, and washing it all down with a drink or two.

On Sunday, you could do just that, all while benefiting a great cause here in Southwest Florida.

For six years, Barbecue, Bands, and Brews has been dishing out some of Southwest Florida’s best barbecue, all while raising thousands of dollars for a unique non-profit.

“This is our largest fundraising event for builders care,” said Heidi Taulman, the Executive for Lee BIA Builders Care.

The organization renovates homes for the elderly and disabled.

It does everything from as large as knocking down the house to building a new one, to as simple as building a ramp to let someone in and out of their front door.

“You wouldn’t believe how many times people have been literally prisoners in their own home because they’re in wheelchairs and there’s now way for them to get out,” said Taulman

Making Barbecue, Bands, and Brew that much more important.

“We’ve had several people that are just so grateful that they can go check their mail. Those things that you take for granted,” said Taulman.

Last year, builder’s care was able to raise $60,000 from the one day event, and of course the festival comes with it’s fun.

There’s a barbecue contest ,with some familiar judges, and four bands playing away in the Florida sun.

So while the special ingredient to these recipes may never be known, the secret to helping those in need here in Southwest Florida, are events like this one and people like you who generously give back.

Builders care helps 30 households a year, and has given back $3 million in renovations.
