WASHINGTON (AP) – Authorities say an armed man kidnapped a woman, fatally shot a Census Bureau guard and led police on a car chase through Maryland and Washington, D.C., before an exchange of gunfire that left him and an officer wounded.

Gina Ford, a spokeswoman with the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office, on Friday identified the shooter as Ronald Anderson. Anderson’s 48th birthday was Thursday.

Anderson’s condition wasn’t immediately available Friday. Neither was the wounded officer’s.

A hospital spokeswoman says the guard who was shot, Lawrence Buckner, died at a hospital in Cheverly, Maryland, after Thursday’s shooting. The woman who was allegedly kidnapped was found safe.

The FBI says the shooting was not terrorism-related. Metropolitan Police Department Chief Cathy Lanier said it’s believed to be domestic in nature.
