Iona-McGregor’s new fire boat is christened

LEE COUNTY, Fla.- The Iona-McGregor Fire Department christened its new fire boat Friday.

Only WINK News was there for the ceremony. The military-style boat, Iona 70 Remembrance, has only been in service a little over a month, but it’s been busy.

The boat has already fought fires and assisted in search and rescues. The deputy chief says it’s emotional to see the boat finally here, serving the community. The crew made a toast after the boat was blessed.

“It’s phenomenal, this has been three years in the making. Iona 70 Remembrance has turned out to be beyond all of our wildest imagination as far as capability and just sturdiness, beauty. We as a fire district are phenomenally blessed,” said Deputy Chief Chad Jorgensen.

The boat is replacing the departments old boat of 20 years.
