Snakes sneak into Naples homes, surprise owners

NAPLES, Fla.- Snakes were trying to cozy up with homeowners Thursday.

One snake made its way into a bedroom and another on a welcome mat; the Collier County Sheriff’s Office was called in to save the day.

The fight wasn’t easy, the snakes tried to fight back.

The first call took officers to a home in Bucks Run Reserve. A family and friends scrambling to figure out how a snake got in their bedroom and how to get it out.

“I don’t know, the snake was in the middle of the room and it moved to this side,” said Serey Ivanoe who is visiting Naples from Russia.

WINK News snapped a picture of the little guy and sent it to an expert. They weighed in and told us it is a black racer–not to be frightened.

We tried to scoot him out the door but that is why an official stepped in; the snake wasn’t happy and continued striking his shoe. Before the officers could even put the snake in the woods, they received another call.

This call was another “snake in a home” 3 miles away.

“I was scared because I am in there all the time,” said Lourdes Idrizi.

The snake was found curled up on the welcome mats; this one was dangerous, a baby water moccasin.

Idrizi tells WINK News her neighbor found it but it slithered away. We searched around with the officers and found it a few doors down. It was just as feisty as the first but there was more at stake with this one.

Deputies tried to release it back into the wild but it kept coming back for more. It was captured and taken away.

No one was hurt in either case and the homeowners were happy with the officers work.

“Oh, yes, yes, thank you for you guys coming too,” said Idrizi.

Deputies say always call animal control or law enforcement for help if you are unsure if a snake is venomous. They say not to try to remove it on your own.
