BONITA SPRINGS, Fla.- New video shows the second the roof collapsed during a house fire.

The fire broke out just before noon Wednesday inside a home in the Pelican Landing community.

Firefighters say a car caught fire in the garage, then the flames quickly spread to the house and the attic.

Officials tell WINK News they had a tough time putting out those flames because the clay tiles on the roof trapped the heat.

“It’s a furnace up there, so once the wood and the trusses start to catch on fire, it doesn’t take long at all and there is so much weight on the roof,” said Deputy Chief Richard Scott. “It’s really dangerous for us, which it why we didn’t make entry.”

The homeowners were outside at the time but breathed in some smoke. They were taken to the hospital as a precaution.

The State Fire Marshal is looking into the cause of the fire.
