Brush fire burning in Charlotte Harbor Preserve

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. – Crews are working a brush fire at the Charlotte Harbor Preserve State Park near South Gulf Cove.

Firefighters say about 90 percent of the fire is contained. They’ll continue to look for hotspots throughout the area.

Dee Hawkins, the Charlotte County Fire and EMS spokesperson, told WINK News crews were called to the fire around 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

At this point, 700 acres have burned. No homes or buildings were threatened.

Florida Power and Light is working a power outage that does not affect any homes in the area of South Gulf Cove.
