More after hours parties planned for Sun Splash

CAPE CORAL, Fla.- Sex in the pool, underage drinking and loud music. WINK News has learned there are plans for more parties like this at Sun Splash in Cape Coral. A DJ tells WINK News he has a $44,000 contract for six more events. This is coming just one day after Sun Splash said they were not going to allow that. One Cape Coral councilman says the crazy party proves the city needs more safe events for teenagers.

“My ultimate goal is pretty much to keep the kids away from the house parties. They go in to the house parties and there’s shoot outs, you know, they’re doing things, they’re dying. Coming to a secure place at Sun Splash at a place the family, friends, grandparents everybody knows about it belongs to the city we have police around we have staff we have security being search– they’re safe,” said party host, Travis Williams.

Tuesday WINK News spoke to Sun Splash manager Sandra Greiner. She apologized for the party and said it wouldn’t happen again. Williams said he has not heard anything from Sun Splash or the city.

“Two of the higher young ladies, I’m not going to name names, two of the higher ladies of Sun Splash came up to me and shook my hand and shaking the DJ’s hands saying ‘we really appreciate it. Great turn out, great turn out.’ You know it was so good that their concessions stand sold out, food sold out, soda sold out, it was empty in there,” said Williams.

City council members tell WINK News this party makes it clear to them that there are not enough constructive activities for teens in the city. Councilman Richard Leon thinks this event could become a tradition.

“I grew up in Cape Coral. There was nothing to do except for jump in canals and then the police would come and chase us away, there’s nothing to do. There’s 20,000 estimated people between 12 and 18 in the City of Cape Coral. What is there to do? Here’s an option for them, here’s a safe option for them,” said Leon.

Despite neighbors and employees complaining about the sex in the pools, blaring bass and kids jumping the fence to get inside, Leon thinks this is a great idea if the music is turned down and more police are on hand.

Now, the council plans to look at their master parks plan to see if they can work with schools and parents to find more options.

If the contract stands, the next party at Sun Splash will be held on April 25.
