NAPLES, Fla.- Marina employees spent hours moping up 25 gallons of diesel fuel that leaked into the water. WINK News was there just after it happened around 10 a.m. Wednesday morning. Officials say a boat owner was transferring the fuel between two tanks at the time. The harbormaster for the City of Naples says the spill could have been avoided. “If he knew how much fuel was in each tank, so he knew he could stop at a certain level, or of he had someone on the outside of the boat, because he is in a slip, monitoring the outside and as soon as he saw a little bit come out say ‘hey, hey stop,'” said Captain Roger Jacobsen. Employees were able to get the fuel contained quickly. The cleanup took a few hours.
