Firefighters battle brush fire in Charlotte County

Published: Updated:

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla.- A brush fire near Gillot Boulevard and Quinlan Avenue is 100 percent contained after firefighters battled the flames for hours.

Fifteen acres burned as residents were asked to stay out of the area while multiple agencies worked to control the fire.

Officials say at one point, flames burned just three feet away from some homes.

Charlotte County school buses were unable to deliver students to bus stops due to a road closure. The buses returned to the school where they originated from.

Florida Power and Light cut off power south of Van Lenten Boulevard, north of Quinlan Avenue, and east of Gillot Boulevard.
