Birthday wish comes true for Korean War veteran

NAPLES, Fla.- A birthday wish came true for a Korean War veteran.

Wednesday, the former Navy pilot got to fly a 1949 Warbird.

WINK News was there as 85-year old Richard Curran took off from the Naples Airport.

He was in the Navy from 1948 to 1951, and learned to fly during that time. After that, he was a pilot for Pan American World Airways for five years.

“After all the years of flying I’ve done, to be out of it for the past 10 years and then to come back in and fly in that airplane, it was a beautiful experience,” said Curran.

During the flight, Curran got to pilot the plane that has an open cockpit. He tells WINK News it was a very exciting moment.
