FORT MYERS, Fla.- Officers traded in their badges and picked up serving trays for a good cause.

Uniformed officers spent two days, alongside servers at Joe’s Crab Shack in downtown Fort Myers to raise money for athletes with Special Olympics Florida.

At the “Tip a Cop” event, each patron was given a separate envelope to tip their “server.” The money collected totaled more than $3,000.

The tips for the uniformed officers are in addition to an actual servers tip.

WINK News is told since 2009, more than $37,000 has been raised, helping nearly 250 athletes compete for the state games.
