Collier County man under arrest for animal cruelty

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla.- Only WINK News was there when Domestic Animal Services (DAS) picked up an abused dog from the hospital.

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office said the 2-year-old German Shepherd was beaten with a bamboo stick.

His owner, Ben Tseng is now in jail arrested for animal cruelty. The dog is expected to be okay.

On Sunday, deputies said a woman fishing in a canal off of 19 Avenue Southwest watched Tseng beat his dog over and over. She called 911 and described the horrific beating as it happened.

Tseng told deputies he was punishing his dog for biting his daughter’s goat.

The dog was treated at the Emergency Pet Hospital overnight.

“He is completely kind and trusting,” said Dr. Erik Madison. He says the dog had bruising around his head and soreness in his legs.

“We’ve treated him with a couple types of pain medication, trying to control pain and inflammation. We’ve got him on some eye medication for minor eye injuries” said Madison.

On Monday, a judge set bond for Tseng at $50,000 and told him he could not have any pets.

DAS tells WINK News the goats on Tsen’gs property were malnourished. They were not taken from the home but the owners have two days to get treatment for the goats.

As for the dog, he will remain in DAS custody for now.
