Police officer arrested for sending sex images of 2-year-old

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) – A central Florida police officer has been charged with one count of directing or promoting the sexual performance of a 2-year-old girl.

According to a Polk County Sheriff’s Office arrest affidavit, 32-year-old Joshua Smith of Lakeland sent social media messages and images to an undercover FBI agent describing and showing sex acts with the child. He was arrested Wednesday and taken to South County Jail in Frostproof.

His bond was set at $150,000. It is not known whether he has an attorney to speak on his behalf.

Smith has worked as an Oakland Police officer for the past nine years. Oakland is a small community outside of Orlando.

Further charges are pending a forensic analysis of the computer and cellphone seized from Smith’s home.
