NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla.- A twist to a Southwest Florida tradition. Habitat for Humanity of Lee and Hendry Counties has put 1,300 families into a new home since 1979.

Friday, they added to that total. There to help was a 91-year-old man who’s been volunteering with the organization for a quarter century.

Harold Elsesser, a great grandfather, lifelong carpenter, and original crew member of the USS Intrepid, was recognized for a quarter century of volunteer work.

“Back in September he was injured on a job site. He fell and cracked his head and ended up in the hospital and it was probably about two weeks after he got out of the hospital he was back on the job site every single day working,” said volunteer director Paula Schenz.

Looking around, you can see Elsesser’s efforts come to life in a set of keys for a family in need.
