TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) – Florida is moving the date of its presidential primary election.

The Florida Legislature on Wednesday sent to Gov. Rick Scott a measure that would bump back the date of the 2016 primary from March 1 to March 15.

The legislation could be a big boost for the potential presidential campaigns of both former Gov. Jeb Bush and U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio.

That’s because the date change would allow the Republican Party of Florida to make the primary a “winner take all” contest that could help one of them seeking the GOP nomination.

The Florida Senate approved the bill unanimously on Wednesday.

It means Florida will comply with national party rules – which it broke the past two presidential elections when lawmakers decided Florida should have an early primary.
