Cape Coral Police conduct traffic insurance operation

CAPE CORAL, Fla.- The Cape Coral Police Department is cracking down on insurance fraud.

Tuesday, 38 police officers participated in a traffic operation focused on uninsured motorists and drivers with fraudulent insurance.

As a result of the operation, 280 traffic stops were conducted between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Police say 230 written warnings were issued, along with 68 traffic citations. Of the citations, 26 were moving violations. Forty were non-moving violations of which 15 were for no-proof of insurance.

Authorities say five people were arrested. Three people were driving on a suspended license and the other two arrests were for drug possession.

“Out of the 280 drivers stopped today, just over 5 percent had any type of problem with their insurance.  Seeing this kind of voluntary compliance among drivers is very encouraging,” Det. Sergeant Dana Coston.
