LEHIGH ACRES, Fla.- Deputies are investigating a deadly home invasion.

On Sunday at approximately 11:30 p.m., authorities responded to the 1100 block of Plumosa Avenue in reference to a home invasion.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office tells WINK News the grandparents of a 3-month-old baby were watching her when multiple assailants burst into the residence.

The grandfather, 68-year-old Hemchand Bhagwandin and grandmother, 66-year-old Sabitree Bhagwandin were violently attacked. Hemchand Bhagwandin died during the attack.

“This is something that, you know, doesn’t happen in Lee County.  Normally when we see these types of crimes, they’re because of the life style people lead,” said Lt. Jeff Dektas.

WINK News spoke with Bhagwandin’s daughter who says her mothers face is so swollen her eyes are barely able to open.

“They went in with ski masks and guns, they attacked my father and ran after my mother and threw her in the bathroom, beat her, stomped her head, back and forth, back and forth,” said Sharda Bisram.

Bisram also says the invaders also aggressively touched the 5-month old little girl who was inside the home at the time.

“We think it is someone who has been watching the house, I think my parents were targeted,” she said.

One neighbor tells WINK News Bhagwandin ran to her door for help.

“She said they threw bleach on her, hit her on the head with a gun, knocked her out. When she woke up and came though she was in the bathroom and she said all she was thinking about, when she opened the door she just kept running,” said the neighbor who wanted their identity hidden.

“They are not amateurs, that’s for sure. To dowse bleach on someone, you are trying to remove evidence,” said Bisram.
