LEE COUNTY, Fla.- Victory for people living along a busy street. After years of trying to get traffic signals, the people got their wish. The signals are going up at McGregor Boulevard and A & W Bulb Road. Florida’s Department of Transportation (FDOT) says it studied the traffic several times in recent years, but a survey done in February, showed a dramatic increase in problems. It’s not so much traffic count, but rather, wait times, that convinced the road planners to put in lights. FDOT found vehicles turning right from A & W Bulb Road onto McGregor Boulevard, often back up 30 cars deep. It can take five minutes for just one car to turn right. People in Heritage Cove community will be the most affected by the lights. They’ve led the charge to get signals. FDOT estimates the lights will cost $300,000. Work could begin later this fall, but would take at least a couple of months to complete.
