Cincinnati firefighters perform to Fort Myers Beach crowds for a good cause

FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla.- It’s that time of the year again, the Cincinnati Firefighters are back!

Their popular performances have been a Fort Myers Beach spring break staple for years now. However, what you may not know, is all the money raised goes toward a good cause.

The firemen were burning up the dance floor, shaking it for a good cause and collecting donations from the crowd.

“I want them to teach me some dance moves!” said spectator Valerie Gates.

For the last three years, the Araba Shriners of Southwest Florida has been the charity of choice.

“There is no better charity out there, myself, than helping burned children and what Shriners does for people all across America,” said firefighter Jeff Yount.

In 2014, the Cincinnati firefighters raised more than $10,000 putting on an action-packed show.

Some of the funds raised go towards a special van that will be used by the Araba Shriners to transport children from Southwest Florida to Tampa.

“This van allows us to take wheelchair patients that otherwise couldn’t get there,” said Dick Nelson.

“They put our name on the back, it was really neat to see, that our money actually went to them, and we saw our results of dancing on the stage,” said Yount.

Yount has been coming to the beach for more than two decades.

“We’re firemen raising money for charity, and they are starved for entertainment. They love it, I’m always excited coming out for the crowd,” said Yount.

He says the routines have changed over the years, but this year they brought some of their classic dances back. The firefighters also unveiled some new dances to the crowd.

The firefighters will be performing at the Lani Kai at 1:30 p.m. until Wednesday, March 18.
