Naples Zoo unveils plans for Florida panther exhibit

NAPLES,Fla.- The Naples Zoo unveiled plans Wednesday for their newest exhibit dedicated to helping injured Florida panthers.

A large space is being transformed, complete with a water feature and plenty of room for the animals to roam.

The panther that will soon call the exhibit home is named Uno.

Florida Fish & Wildlife officials say Uno survived a shotgun blast to the face and now he’s blind.

Other panthers that need temporary treatment will also be housed in the exhibit.

Zoo staff say guests will have the opportunity to not only meet the beautiful animals, but also see firsthand why they need to be vigilant on the roadways and treat the animals with respect if they ever encounter them.

“We want to provide that opportunity for our guests to actually see a Florida panther, learn more about Florida panthers, and we’re certain, gain a greater appreciation for why this region is better off with this majestic cat,” said Naples Zoo president Jack Mulvena.

The zoo hopes to open the new exhibit by June, if not sooner.
