Government plane lands in Naples; who was on board?

NAPLES, Fla. – Questions and rumors flew after a government plane landed at the Naples Municipal Airport around 1 p.m. Tuesday.

“I have learned it is a government training flight,” said Deputy Executive Director Sheila Dugan of the Naples Municipal Airport. “They do this because they need to log so many hours.”

Many still wondered if the flight had anything to do with President Obama’s visit to Miami Wednesday where he will talk on immigration. “That is what I understand,” replied Dugan to the question. “But this flight doesn’t have anything to do with the President.”

Officials say the aircraft was a Gulfstream 5. It’s much smaller than Air Force One. A model like this one typically carries Generals and other VIP’s, in fact one was in Naples this week.

“Just a few days ago we had Panetta come in on that type of aircraft,” said Dugan.

So who was on board Tuesday afternoon? Three people were on board–all of them, the flight crew.

“I don’t know how many people make up the crew, but I did see three people in uniform,” said Dugan. “[Uniforms] khaki, more casual.”

Three black helicopters were also spotted flying around Naples. We are told those landed at the Sheriff’s hanger and are special ops. It’s a trip the crew makes annually.
