CAPE CORAL, Fla.- A dream has come true for an 8-year-old boy. Tuesday, Zachary Boucher was sworn in as the newest, youngest K-9 officer with the Cape Coral Police Department.

“I don’t know what to say!”

Meet the youngest member to ever become part of the Cape Coral Police Department. Boucher was speechless after he was sworn in.

“I feel cool.”

His new team watched him become one of their own.

“I’m happy, excited and nervous.”

It’s a dream come true for Boucher who has always wanted to be a K-9 officer.

“To work with the K-9 officers and to help people.”

Boucher is fighting his own battle. He suffers from an autoimmune disease.

“I cannot tell you how proud we are to swear in Zachary today, it was a phenomenal event for all of us, he’s worked hard to become a Cape Coral Police Officer.”

“He handled it today just like I expected him too. I’m really happy to have him on board with us,” said Police Chief Bart Connelly.

WINK News was there as Boucher started training at the K-9 training facility. He was right in the mix of the action, training his new K-9 friends.

Earlier this week, he met his partner, Nate.

“Nate, is fast, really fast, I couldn’t catch up with him.”

Boucher did go out on a ride along earlier this week. The chief says he did excellent and accelerated so well, he could easily go out as a solo patrol officer.
