LCSO investigating Lehigh Acres death

LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. – The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a death investigation in the 100 block of John Avenue South.

Deputies were called out to the area around 10 p.m. Wednesday night for a report of a suspicious person.

Neighbors tell WINK News they heard multiple gun shots ring out before they saw deputies arrive.

Winifred Gander and her husband still can’t believe it.

She tells WINK News they were sitting at home watching a movie when “all of a sudden we heard this ‘wham wham!’ and I said to my husband, ‘was that gunshots?'”

They looked outside but couldn’t see anything. That’s when their neighbor came over.

“He said ‘there’s a body in the road, the guy’s dead and there’s somebody in the car,'” said Gander.

Deputies responded to the scene where they confirmed one person was dead.

Neighbors say a second man was in a red car.

“Our neighbor said that he was sitting in the car and he was still twitching, so there was still life there at the time they took him out of the car,” said Gander.

The car was later towed from the scene.
