BONITA SPRINGS, Fla.-  A massive police presence remained outside the home where deputies were involved in a shootout with an armed man.

Lee County deputies say 66-year-old George Larsen was transported to a local hospital.

They say he was armed when they arrived at his home on Red Hibiscus Drive Wednesday night.

Friday, officers used dogs and metal detectors to try to find casings that may have been left behind from the shooting.

In an exclusive interview with WINK News, Larsen’s neighbor, Claus Massman said Larsen had a quick temper which came out at community meetings.

“Whenever there was something that appeared wrong to him, and felt he had an opinion, he was really into it and was voicing his opinion really quick,” said Massman.

Massman says Larsen told him he owned guns and thought everyone should, because its their second amendment right.

WINK News made numerous attempts to talk to the sheriff’s office but officials said there was nothing new to report.

Neighbors tell WINK News Larsen may have been holding his wife hostage in their house.

They say she barricaded herself in a bathroom and called another neighbor down the street for help and called 911.

After deputies arrived, there was a shootout and Larsen was shot.

Deputies say they transported Larsen to the hospital.

WINK News called Lee Memorial Hospital and talked to investigators but have not been able to confirm how either Larsen or his wife are doing.
