Man injured in Bonita Springs shooting

BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. – Bullets flew through a neighborhood overnight. WINK News has confirmed a deputy was involved, and it was the homeowner who was taken to the hospital.

Crime-scene tape still surrounds the home on Red Hibiscus Drive, off Imperial Parkway.

Authorities say they responded to a call around 11 p.m. Wednesday for an active shooter.

Deputies say the man inside the house was shot. They transported him to the hospital.

None of the deputies were injured.

There were so many gunshots, neighbors say they were forced to take cover.

“I ducked down not to be in the line of fire,” said Gerhard Hluchnik.

Bullets even flew across a retention pond and struck homes on the next street, leaving neighbors uneasy about the frightening encounter in this usually quiet neighborhood.

“We were right out here on the lanai and we didn’t realize that this place got hit til later this morning,” John Walsh.
