COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. – WINK News has the 911 call a man made late Tuesday night right after a vehicle hit him as he walked along on Alligator Alley.

The victim is in the hospital in fair condition.

The man told dispatch he ran out of gas near mile marker 94.

“I was walking down the side of the interstate and I must have wandered into traffic and I was struck by a vehicle,” said Daniel Guba.

The 57-year-old remained calm on the phone while waiting for help to arrive. Guba told the dispatcher he had injuries to his left side, “I know my elbow is hurt, I know my hip is hurt, I don’t know the severity of any.”

Guba wasn’t able to get a description of the vehicle that hit him because he said he was struck from behind.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers said that makes their investigation tough.

“We use whatever means we can to give us a lead to the vehicle, but of coarse it always helps if there’s either physical evidence at the scene or if the victim or bystanders can get us information,” said Lt. Greg Bueno.

He tells WINK News Guba didn’t know about their road ranger service.

Lt. Bueno said incidents like these could be avoided if a person calls *FHP.

“We could have dispatched a road ranger to bring him a small amount if fuel to get him off the interstate or to assist whatever his vehicle condition was.”
