COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. – WINK News confirms a school bus driver, accused of causing a seven car pile up in North Naples Wednesday has an extensive driving record.

Deputies say the bus driver, 48-year-old Diejuste Dalusma, was making a right turn from Vanderbilt Beach Road to Livingston Road drove over the median and into oncoming traffic.  Luckily, no children were on the bus, but one person was injured.

The Collier School District spokesman says Dalusma started working as a substitute bus driver in September of 2014.

He told deputies on the scene, he didn’t know what happened during the crash.  The driver is now being tested for drugs.

WINK News uncovered Dalusma has ten traffic infractions since 2007 on his license. Some of the infractions include speeding in a school zone, failing to obey a traffic light and careless driving.

We asked district leaders how he got hired with so many infractions. A spokesman tells WINK News, a driver cannot have more than 20 points on their driving record.

Some parents say the policy is not strict enough.

“This is a bus driver, with kids in their hands they should definitely take more responsibility,” said Kimberly Hoffshire.
