CCSO to host self defense class for Women

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla.- The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, Charlotte County Community Services and Shuman’s ATA Black Belt Academy are teaming up to offer a free class in “Self Defense for Women” to residents in March.

The class is being offered on Wednesday, March 25 from 6 p.m.- 8 p.m. at the Port Charlotte Beach Complex, located at 4500 Harbor Blvd.

This program is being offered free of charge to women ages 18 and older who are Charlotte County residents.  The method of ‘stun and run’ will be taught with emphasis on locating different pressure points that can help a woman get away from an attacker.

Anyone wishing to attend needs to register no later than Friday, March 20 at 3 p.m. at any of the Sheriff’s Office’s four district offices. You will need to complete the registration form and sign a release waiver.

– District 1: 6868 San Casa Rd. in Englewood
– District 2: 1441 Tamiami Trail in Port Charlotte (Town Center Mall)
– District 3: 7474 Utilities Road in Punta Gorda
– District 4:  3280 Tamiami Trail in Port Charlotte (Promenades Mall)

Attendees should dress in comfortable work-out type clothing, wear soft soled, closed toe shoes and remove all jewelry. Please bring a towel and photo ID. A water fountain is available or you may bring your own beverage in a resealable plastic bottle/container.
