New photos show chaotic scene after 2 LCSO deputies are almost run over

LEE COUNTY, Fla.-  New photos show a chaotic scene the day two deputies were almost run over during a traffic stop off US 41.

The driver, 30-year-old Travis Taylor, is in jail awaiting trial.

On March 18, 2014, Lee County Deputy Dan Leffin severely injured his left leg, chasing down Taylor.

Deputies say Taylor ran a red light earlier on US 41 and College Parkway.

Deputy Leffin says he was chasing Taylor on his motorcycle, when Taylor hopped over a fence. Bushes hid that fence, and caused Leffin to crash.

Leffin told detectives he then flew off the bike, and over the fence, but continued to run after Taylor, eventually taking him down.

Leffin told detectives he was chasing Taylor, because minutes before, Taylor had hit Deputy George Perez with his car.

Leffin says Deputy Perez “uncontrollably spun upward, approximately 15 to 20 feet before falling back down to the ground.'”

He says he thought Perez was dead.

Leffin says he immediately grabbed his gun, and fired three shots at Taylor’s car, which kept going, until Taylor ditched the car at a nearby IHop.

That’s when Leffin began chasing him again, eventually putting him behind bars.

Two more deputies had to jump off their bikes to avoid Taylor. One told detectives he saw Taylor drop a bag of weed out of his car window.

LCSO could not tell WINK News whether the deputies are back on duty, but they did say, they are still employed.
