Homeless coalition conducts annual census

FORT MYERS, Fla. – In 2014, the Lee County Homeless Coalition estimated there are nearly 1,000 homeless people who live in the area.

A large portion of the homeless population gathered in Fort Myers Saturday.  They were able to receive flu shots, backpacks, haircuts, and information on a number of services such as VA benefits.

The event also allows the Lee County Homeless Coalition to conduct its annual census.

“It’s great to know the population we’re trying to serve, so we can strategize what type of resources they need and provide those services,” said Janet Bartos, Executive Director for the Coalition.
