Fort Myers soldier found dead

FORT MYERS, Fla.- WINK News has confirmed that 35-year old Army Specialist Jason Kruszczynski was found dead inside his off-post residence in Killeen, Texas.

Spc. Jason Robert Kruszczynski, 35, whose home of record is listed as Cape Coral, Florida, entered active-duty service in May 2008 as wheeled vehicle mechanic. He was assigned to Company B, Warrior Transition Unit, WTU Brigade, Fort Hood, since July 2014.

Kruszczynski deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from January 2012 to October 2012.

Kruszczynski’s awards and decorations include one Army Commendation Medal, one Army Achievement Medal, three Army Good Conduct medals and one Army Service Ribbon.

Circumstances surrounding this incident are currently under investigation.

Kruszczynski’s family says he served in the army for six years and was even sent to Afghanistan in 2012.

Family members say Kruszczynski was recently medically discharged and was planning to move back to Fort Myers with his wife and young son as soon as next Friday.

Friends tell WINK News the decorated soldier had an infectious smile and bravely honored his country and his family.

The Army released a statement to WINK News, saying the circumstances surrounding Kruszczynski’s death are under investigation.
