Gas prices lower that $2 a gallon?

FORT MYERS, Fla.- Any night now, gas prices could fall below $2 a gallon in Southwest Florida.

The national average for a gallon of regular is $2.04, but drivers in our area are paying around $2.13

Many stations, like Dodges in North Fort Myers, is selling gas for just $2.02 a gallon.

“Right now it costs me about $30 to fill this up, 15 gallon tank,” said driver Ronn James.

For 122 consecutive days, gas prices across Southwest Florida have gotten lower and lower.

“$2.04 you just cant beat that man I’m telling you,” said driver William Spyker.

Unless you shop at Sam’s Club or Bj’s where they are selling gas at $2.02 a gallon.

“It brings our customers in. We do it for the economy, we do it for our customers who are around the area,” said Dodges manager Vicki Gore.

Southwest Florida gas is actually a tad pricier than other areas of the state. The cheapest is in Brandenton area at $1.62 a gallon, Tampa at $1.74 and Orlando at $1.89.

WINK News asked AAA’s Marsha Kut why we are paying a little more.

“The main reason is the transportation of the fuel. As you get farther south it costs more to transport it,” said Kut.

But will Southwest Florida see gas below $2?

“We really don’t know,” said Kut.
