Accused Naples jewelry thief speaks

Published: Updated:

NAPLES, Fla.- WINK News tracked down an accused jewelry thief to get her side of the story, but what we got was an odd response.

WINK News pulled into the gated community Vista Pointe. We used the dial pad and called up 73-year-old Dinah Wright. This conversation followed:

“Yes, hello? This is Dinah.”

“Hi, Dinah my name is Christina Lusby, I work with Wink News.”

“Uh, huh.”

“Hey, we were working on your story about the arrest?”

Wright did not want to answer our questions even though she claimed she has nothing to hide.

“Do you not want to speak with us?”

“I don’t want to talk to you because I have nothing to hide. Okay? Bye.”

Naples police say Wright turned herself in after detectives contacted her. They say she even handed over more than $5,000 of stolen jewelry–three rings from Shannon Green Collections off 5th Avenue in Naples.

“The person helping her turned away for just a brief second and she slid it in her purse very quick,” said jewelry store owner Shannon Long.

Wright may have been too quick for the human eyes but the store says technology was watching.

Wright’s arrest report shows she asked a worker to open a drawer then asked her to weigh an old piece of her jewelry.

When the employee walked away, the surveillance video shows Wright putting rings into her purse.

The store didn’t notice until inventory was taken that night. “We immediately reviewed our cameras and caught everything on camera,” said Long.

Her statement to police is redacted in her arrest report and she’s not telling us much even though she says she has “nothing to hide”.
