MLK Jr. Day events in Southwest Florida

FORT MYERS, Fla.- Today is all about unity and service, to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The Dunbar Festival Committee organizes the events in Fort Myers every year, and this year’s theme is “dream forward.”

The day starts with a Unity Breakfast at the Dr. Carrie Robinson Center at 8 a.m.

At 10 a.m. the annual MLK March begins at the Dunbar Jupiter Hammond Library. The march will go down MLK Jr. Boulevard to Centennial Park. Then, there will be a multicultural celebration there from 11 a.m.- 5 p.m. complete with music, food, and vendors.

You can also participate in a Day of Service event from 1 p.m.- 5 p.m. at the Fort Myers Rescue Mission.

There will also be a parade and celebration in Naples. It starts at 11 a.m. at the corner of Broad Avenue South and Third Street South downtown. They’ll have a community celebration and picnic in Cambier Park at noon.

In Charlotte County, a parade will start at 11 a.m. near downtown and head to the Cooper Street Recreation Center.  It will begin at 75 Taylor Street to Charlotte Avenue then south on Mary Street to the New Operation Cooper Street Learning Center where a celebration will follow.
