NAPLES, Fla. – Thousands of runners pounded the pavement Sunday to raise money for youth scholarships. Gulf Coast runners sponsored the Naples Half Marathon. The group is a non-profit organization that promotes living a healthy lifestyle. The money raised during Sunday’s race will provide scholarships to high school seniors in the area. “They enjoy not only the race itself, but they also I think understand and enjoy and appreciate the fact that we’re raising money for youth development,” said Mitch Norgart, an event organizer Last year, the organization handed out more than $40,000.00 in scholarship funds. Their goal is to give out more than $50,000 this year. The race started Sunday at 7 a.m. at Cambier Park.
