Motorcyclist seriously hurt in crash

CAPE CORAL, Fla.- A 63-year-old man is in critical but stable condition after crashing his motorcycle Sunday evening.

Cape Coral police said the crash happened around 6:45 p.m. in the 2600 block of Southwest Pine Island Road. Police said 63-year-old Douglas Westpfahl was riding in a small pack of motorcycles, when he was changing lanes and hit another motorcycle. Police said alcohol did play a factor in the crash.

Westpfahl was airlifted to the hospital. He is in critical but stable condition. Victor Mastrogiovanni, 45, was on the other motorcycle that was hit. He suffered minor injuries.

The eastbound lanes of Pine Island Road we shut down for several hours as police investigated. At the time this story was published, criminal charges were pending.
