LEE COUNTY, Fla.- Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers is asking for the public’s help identifying a man who tried to rob and carjack a woman at knifepoint on New Year’s Day in Lehigh Acres.

Detectives say the victim had just completed an ATM transaction at the BB&T Bank, located at 1190 Homestead Road, at 8:24 a.m. when a man jumped into the passenger side of her car.

According to authorities the man, who smelled of alcohol, pulled out a large butcher knife and ordered the victim to drive and hand over her cash. The victim refused to do either, and after several failed threats, the suspect then fled the car on foot.

The suspect is described as a white male, between 28 and 35 years of age, around 5-foot-8 to 6 feet tall, weighing between 180 and 200 pounds.

Just a few minutes before the attempted robbery and carjacking, images of a man fitting the same description as the suspect, wearing the same exact clothing, were captured on video at a nearby store.

Anyone with information on the identity of the suspect is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477).  All callers will remain anonymous and will be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.  Tips may also be made online at www.swflcrimestoppers.org or by texting a tip to CRIMES (274637) Keyword: REWARD.
