Everblades hockey team dancer dies after crash

LEE COUNTY, Fla.- The Florida Everblades Hockey Team family is mourning the loss of one of their Everbabes Dance Team members.

29-year-old Melody Lynn died Tuesday, and her death could be tied to a high profile crash in Fort Myers last week.

The Everbabes perform at the hockey games. A close family friend tells WINK News, Lynn was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at a young age, and survived a double lung transplant.

Lee County Deputies say Lynn was driving at First and Park Streets in Fort Myers last Monday morning when her car was hit by an SUV that ran a red light.

In that SUV was 24-year-old Dakota Fields, the man who was shot at a Waffle House down the street. The driver was trying to get him to the hospital.

According to the report, Lynn’s father took her to Cape Coral Hospital for possible injuries, and WINK News has confirmed she was then taken to Tampa General Hospital where she died. It is not yet known whether the injures from the crash caused her death.

WINK News spoke with Alex Reed with the Florida Everblades. He says, “always smiling. She always took the opportunity no matter what to say hello  and she had that smile that everybody noticed for sure. In the end she was high on life, had a passion for dancing and being part of the team so no doubt it is a big loss.”

Friends tell WINK News, Melody was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at a young age, was diabetic and had a double lung transplant back in 2012.

“There was constantly, constantly hospital visits throughout her entire life and set backs, but it never stopped her from being happy,” said close friend Abby Richter.

Richter owns the Competitive Edge Dance Studio in Cape Coral, where Melody also worked.

“She was never late, she was very organized, her choreography was super,” said Richter.

Now Richter and an entire community is mourning the loss of someone truly special.

“We got to extend her life when she got her lungs transplant, but I didn’t think it would be now,” she said.
