Naples installs green bike path panels

Published: Updated:

NAPLES, Fla.- The city of Naples is working to make the roadways safer for bicyclists and pedestrians.

The city is laying down 20-foot light green panels on the ground to highlight where the bike lanes are located, especially in heavily traveled areas.

There are about 10 so far across Naples, mostly in the area of Gulf Shore Boulevard where cyclists like to ride along the coast. The locations were chosen carefully, where bikers may have to make a dangerous right turn to merge with the flow of traffic or where there have been three or more crashes involving a bike and a car.

The Florida Department of Transportation donated the panels to the city.

Naples may install more panels as well. The material is more durable than paint and can last eight times longer.

Current bike panel locations include Crayton Road and Park Shore Drive, Gulf Shore Boulevard and Park Shore Drive, Harbour Drive and Gulf Shore Boulevard and Harbour Drive and Crayton Road.
