UPDATE: Shooting victims drive truck to Gulf Coast Medical Center

LEE COUNTY, Fla. – WINK News was first on the scene at Gulf Coast Medical Center Friday, where Lee County deputies surrounded a Chevrolet truck in the ER parking lot.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were responding to a “shooting call.” WINK News has now learned friends were driving in the area of Alico Road and Treeline when they say someone shot at their vehicle. One person in the car told deputies the driver, 25-year-old Bennie Vines Jr. was shot. Another person in the car took over the wheel and drove him to Gulf Coast Medical Center. Deputies got the call around 2:15 a.m.

The back window of the truck was shot out and there were bullet holes in the side. When the car was towed away just after 5 a.m.. deputies followed, indicating it was being taken in for evidence.
