Historians commemorate 150th anniversary of Civil War & Fort Myers

FORT MYERS, Fla. – This weekend is your chance to go back in time and take a look some unique Southwest Florida history.

The Southwest Florida Historical Society and Southwest Florida History Museum are teaming up as they get ready to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Fort Myers and the Civil War.

Thursday, Glenn Cary and Keith Cary will give a historical talk at the Southwest Florida History Museum about the pre-civil war forts along the west coast of Florida and the Battle of Fort Myers, starting at 7 p.m.

Saturday, the Southwest Florida History Museum will also open their brand new exhibit called “Florida in the Civil War.”

The Southwest Florida History Museum is located at 2031 Jackson Street and the Southwest Florida Historical Society is located at 10091 McGregor Boulevard, both in Fort Myers.
