Investigators still looking for suspect in deadly hit and run

LEE COUNTY, Fla. – 49-year-old Robert Colantonio from Fort Myers was killed Saturday evening while riding his motorcycle on I-75.

Florida Highway Patrol initially reported the crash at 6:10 p.m. and stated it was a hit-and-run crash with injuries. FHP later released Colantonio died from his injuries.

The report stated a car changed lanes behind Colantonio, who was on a motorcycle and hit him. The car then took off.

FHP has little information about the suspect’s vehicle. Troopers said it was a four-door sedan with heavy front-end damage. If you have any information, you are asked to call FHP at 239-938-1800.

Colantonio was an active member of the community and worked with the Make a Wish foundation.  Friends say they are heartbroken over the loss. Friend Jacquelyn Glasgow says, “He was a big strapping guy you know, like invincible, just brings a little more humanity to all of those knowing things can change in a moment. I don’t understand, I don’t understand it. He such a such a great guy and such a good dad and husband nice person nice human being.”

At least two southbound lanes of I-75 near Bonita Beach Road were closed all of Saturday evening while investigators worked the scene.
