PUNTA GORDA, Fla.- WINK News is asking more questions about a mysterious crime that has ties to a gruesome scene from 2012.

Investigators spent nearly 24 hours at a home on Boca Grande Boulevard.

Friday there was no police activity or crime scene tape surrounding the house.

Police were at the scene for the majority of the day on Thursday, serving a search warrant on the property.

Authorities focused their attention in the backyard of the house, digging and raking for evidence.

Investigators confirm to WINK News they took bags of evidence away from the scene and will continue to analyze that. They also said the evidence they collected could lead them to another scene.

The house was at the center of an investigation three years ago when a baby was found inside a freezer, stuffed in garbage bags. The mother, Jessica Smallwood, never faced charges because the baby was still born.

Smallwood’s dad says he’s worried. His grandchildren are staying with their dad and he hasn’t heard from his daughter in days. He says he was questioned by police but they have also left him in the dark.

Authorities say they are looking to make an arrest, but don’t have anyone in custody yet.
