Everblades shutout Stingrays on the road

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC – Andy Iles stopped all 28 shots faced to lead the Everblades to a 2-0 shutout victory over the South Carolina Stingrays at the North Charleston Coliseum Wednesday evening. The Everblades (22-4-0-1, 45pts) improve to 3-1 on the current six game road trip.

After a scoreless first period, the Everblades struck first at 5:06 of the second period on a breakaway goal by Evan Bloodoff. Bloodoff snuck in behind the Stingrays defense and caught up with the puck just above the crease. Bloodoff deked to the backhand and flipped he puck behind goaltender Jeff Jakaitis for the go-ahead tally.

Bloodoff’s ninth goal of the season held up through the end of the second period as the ‘Blades took the 1-0 lead into the second break.

The Stingrays controlled a majority of the play in the third period, outshooting Florida 13-5 in the final stanza. However, Andy Iles turned aside everything the Stingrays threw his way down the stretch.

Everblades grabbed some breathing room in the final minute as Jeff Costello added an empty net goal to secure the 2-0 shutout victory for the Everblades

Iles earned his first professional shutout stopping all 28 shots faced, while Jeff Jakaitis takes loss despite a stellar effort allowing just one goal on 21 shots faced in the game.

The Everblades continue their road trip on Friday in Greenville as they take on the Road Warriors. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
