CAPE CORAL, Fla.- Residents rallied peacefully outside the Cape Coral Police Department Tuesday to show support for police.

The rally comes at a time when tensions between officers and some of the people they serve are high.

About a dozen people gathered at the corner of Nicholas Parkway and Cultural Park Boulevard. They held signs reading “support the police” as cars drove by and honked in support as well.

The rally held Tuesday was much different than the one held on December 1st during which a group of people protested police brutality. Protestors held signs reading “hands up don’t shoot,” in response to recent high profile cases like the death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri.

The organizers of this rally hope others in Southwest Florida will follow suit. They’ll be holding another similar rally on January 6th on the corner of Del Prado Boulevard and Cape Coral Parkway.
