FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla.- Bystanders jumped in to help a sailor whose boat was trapped on shore. Mark Diephouse says he was sailing off the coast when his rudder broke. That caused him to lose control and crash onto the shore. He says he was moved when so many people jumped in to help. “Everybody’s been great. It’s touched me. I’m happy and fortunate for all the people I’ve met. Everybody’s really been chipping in.” Witnesses tell WINK News about 200 people rocked the boat back and forth at high tide and were able to turn the boat on its side then drag it into deep enough water to finally free the vessel.
