ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) – A man has died after falling 30 feet from a ropes course at a central Florida mall.

Authorities say 52-year-old Robert Belvoir of Lake Mary was on the ropes course at the Artegon Marketplace in Orlando when he fell Wednesday afternoon.

According to police, the mall was packed with Christmas Eve shoppers, and some witnessed Belvoir fall from the highest point of the Sky Trail attraction.

Investigators say Belvoir’s harness somehow broke loose and he fell to a cement floor.

“The harness hooks into a little slide piece that lets you slide all around, and it came out of that piece,” said Lt. Lovetta Quinn-Henry, Orlando Police spokeswoman.

“There was only one relative with him who had previously been on the ride without any issues, and then he hooked up, went on and unfortunately didn’t make it,” Quinn-Henry said.

Belvoir was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The mall was closed after Belvoir’s fall and would remain closed as scheduled for Christmas Day.

“The reason for this tragic accident is unclear but is being investigated by Sky Trail Ropes and local authorities,” the owner of Artegon Marketplace, FB Orlando Acquisition Company, said in a statement Wednesday.

In a statement posted Thursday on their Facebook page, the owners of Sky Trail expressed their condolences to Belvoir’s family and said they were cooperating with investigators.
